Nevis and St. Kitts form a two-island nation. In Nevis, a mere 8,000 people live on the verdant volcanic island which means the beaches are never crowded for the visitor; even the golden-hued Pinney's Beach along the western shoreline which boats one of the most palm tree lined beaches in the Caribbean. And for those who may want a change from the fine, white sand beaches, Nevis can offer you beach strips of black volcanic sand (*Warning: even hotter to the foot than the white sand). The island contains many old lovely sugar plantations, harkening back to a different era, whose greathouses and stone outbuildings have been turned into hotels and intimate resorts.
Also verdant and lush, St. Kitts appears to have colonised itself by fanning out along the slopes of its highest mountain, the now-dormant volcano of Mt. Liamunga. Some of the best beaches are found on the narrow tip that faces its sister Nevis.
St. Kitts also has its share of first-class unique resorts which were also converted from the rich sugar plantations. As well, check out the black sand beaches scattered around the edges (*NB: Do bring your flip-flops).
